On Set: Doctor Who filming continues, plus a spoiler

Filming for Matt Smith’s first series as the Doctor rolls on, and eager fans are learning some details about future plots.

Members of Gallifrey Base, most notably Scooty, were on hand to take pictures of filming, where possible.

The non-spoiler part of this filming report is that the time setting for this story seems to be the World War 2 era.

Day One for Doctor Who: Series Five Filming

Filming for the fifth series of the new incarnation of Doctor Who, set to air in the UK in spring of 2010, has begun. Set reports and pictures reveal the costume designs for Matt Smith’s Doctor, as well as Karen Gillian’s role as companion. Additionally, a renovated TARDIS model has been seen.

Smith, 26, is playing the eleventh incarnation of the Doctor, with Karen Gillian, 21, playing the Doctor’s companion, named Amy Pond. The Daily Mail has pics of the two actors for filming, and the TARDIS can be seen in the background.

Longtime fans of Doctor Who will immediately notice changes to the TARDIS model, the foremost change being the shade of blue now used. Other changes are the St. John’s ambulance decal on the front door, and the overall new, fresh look for the prop.

BBC updates Doctor Who page’s main feature

Recently, the BBC have updated the main feature on the official Doctor Who site.

The new feature chronicles the various stories concerning Gallifrey, the Doctor’s home world, spanning the original series and the planet’s mentions in the new show.

One thing I immediately noticed was the rather nice edit of William Hartnell into the Time Lord robes. The Time Lord robes were first shown in the Fourth Doctor era (they may have been in The Three Doctors, but I can’t remember), so the First Doctor never wore the robes.

Anyway, there are some neat clips from classic and new Who on the feature.

Who Likes Spoilers, Then?

Well, I just came across this while watching the Twitter Search result field for “Doctor Who” (I find a lot of news that way, actually). io9.com has posted a pic that contains major spoilers for Tennant’s last two stories. I thought about ignoring the link, but I clicked and saw.

Guess Who’s Returning?

I was just checking around on the Doctor Who Forums, and on some DW news blogs I keep an eye on, and I noticed the latest news.

DEFINITE SPOILER WARNING for what is ahead.

Someone posted the following tidbit on the set/filming report thread:

I have some news.
There will be filming ( both inside and outside) at ‘Donna’s house ‘on April 6th, 7th and 8th. Front windows to be dressed with Christmas decorations .

Later on, this was posted:

I’ve heard that they’re filming inside and outside Donna’s house shortly. Apparently the nearby residents have been encouraged to put christmas decorations in their windows

As with all of these reports, keep in mind that nothing is official, and this could be used for an entirely different purpose than what we are assuming.  But, if this is true, it means that Donna might be returning for David Tennant’s last (or penultimate) story.
