The BBC this morning revealed the new Doctor Who logo, to be used with the 2010 series of the show, featuring Matt Smith as the Doctor.

Gone is the elliptical background, as the new logo features a return to the classic series two-line design for the title. New is the DW acronym in the form of the TARDIS.
No word yet on a new title sequence to accompany this new logo, but with the introduction of a new logo, it can be assumed that a new title sequence will be used.
Filming for Matt Smith’s first series as the Doctor rolls on, and eager fans are learning some details about future plots.
Members of Gallifrey Base, most notably Scooty, were on hand to take pictures of filming, where possible.
The non-spoiler part of this filming report is that the time setting for this story seems to be the World War 2 era.
The rest, however…is after the jump.

Following on from all the Doctor Who news at this year’s San Diego ComicCon, BBC America has announced the acquisition of the fifth series of the show, featuring Matt Smith in the role of the Doctor.
BBC held a Doctor Who panel at this year’s SDCC, featuring Russell T. Davies, Julie Gardner, and David Tennant. At the panel, an exclusive trailer was debuted for Tennant’s final two episodes, set to air at the end of this year. Also, a short clip from Planet of the Dead was shown, as that episode was set to air that evening on BBC America.
The recent announcement from BBC America about the acquisition of Tennant’s final three episodes fueled discussion on whether or not BBC America would become the home of Doctor Who in the States, as logically it should. That has been confirmed, with this announcement. The fifth series of Doctor Who, featuring Matt Smith as the newly regenerated Doctor, will begin next year.
The fifth series will be shot in HD, and air shortly after their premiere in the UK. Steven Moffat, who has written episodes for the show before, will be executive producer and lead writer for the new series, with Piers Wenger and Beth Willis as associates.

The BBC have announced a series of five new audio dramas, featuring the return of Tom Baker to his role of the Doctor.
28 years after Logopolis aired, and the Doctor regenerated, Tom Baker is once again at the controls of the TARDIS. Five audio dramas will follow the Doctor in new adventures.
The first adventure, called The Stuff of Nightmares, will be released 3rd September, and be priced at £9.78. The story will be one hour in length, and on one CD.

The official description for the story is as follows:
Responding to an advert apparently worded for him alone, Captain Mike Yates (retired) is reunited with a ghost from the past. But why has the Doctor, that mysterious traveller in Time and Space, sent for his former UNIT acquaintance? Trapped by a horde of vicious creatures in an apparently innocuous English country cottage, the two old friends are on the brink of an enormous adventure. As the Doctor relates his recent escapades, it becomes clear to Mike that they – and the Earth at large – are facing an enemy of unimaginable power and horrific intent. The nightmare is only just beginning…
The four following stories will be released throughout the remainder of the year, with the final two being released on the same day. The release schedule is as follows:
2. The Dead Shoes – 8th October
3. The Circus of Doom – 5th November
4. A Sting in the Tale – 3rd December
5. Hive of Horror – 3rd December
Filming for the fifth series of the new incarnation of Doctor Who, set to air in the UK in spring of 2010, has begun. Set reports and pictures reveal the costume designs for Matt Smith’s Doctor, as well as Karen Gillian’s role as companion. Additionally, a renovated TARDIS model has been seen.

Smith, 26, is playing the eleventh incarnation of the Doctor, with Karen Gillian, 21, playing the Doctor’s companion, named Amy Pond. The Daily Mail has pics of the two actors for filming, and the TARDIS can be seen in the background.

Longtime fans of Doctor Who will immediately notice changes to the TARDIS model, the foremost change being the shade of blue now used. Other changes are the St. John’s ambulance decal on the front door, and the overall new, fresh look for the prop.

I don’t recall BBC America advertising it all that much, but keep in mind that the 2008 Doctor Who Christmas special, The Next Doctor, airs tonight at 9PM EST.
The time slot for the episode is from 9PM to 10:15, I’ve noticed. Hopefully, they’ll air the entire episode, with no cuts. But the only way to know for sure is to tune in.
Yes, it’s Christmas in late-June, which is odd. But if you’ve not yet seen this episode of Doctor Who, be sure to watch!
I’m an avid user of Twitter. You can find me here. Anyway, I mention this because of a group of people I follow on Twitter. These people roleplay characters from Doctor Who, but, more than that, there is a lot of interaction between the characters. Every day I can usually count on seeing at least a few of them chatting back and forth.
First on the list is TheLastDoctor. This was the first of these characters that I started following. I’m used to seeing him tweet “Hm…”.
Another character is Davros. He’s the creator of the Daleks, and here he always seems to hang around @__DalekCaan__ and @TheLastDoctor. A lot of randomness from him.
One I just mentioned, Dalek Caan, is also active on Twitter. Besides interacting with the characters I’ve already mentioned, this character interacts a lot with the next character on the list.
JennyTLSmith is yet another character I commonly see in these interactions. Additional characters are The8thDoctor, TARDIS, and MasterofWars.
I don’t know how many people are actually in charge of all of these characters, but they are a fun bunch to follow. They always seem to go on adventures, or just sit around and chatter.
Recently, the BBC have updated the main feature on the official Doctor Who site.

The new feature chronicles the various stories concerning Gallifrey, the Doctor’s home world, spanning the original series and the planet’s mentions in the new show.
One thing I immediately noticed was the rather nice edit of William Hartnell into the Time Lord robes. The Time Lord robes were first shown in the Fourth Doctor era (they may have been in The Three Doctors, but I can’t remember), so the First Doctor never wore the robes.
Anyway, there are some neat clips from classic and new Who on the feature.

This is a rumor that cropped up earlier this week, and it goes back to an article in the Daily Mirror.
The Daily Mirror reported that this year’s Children in Need telethon will see a 15-minute Doctor Who segment in which all eleven incarnations of the Doctor appear. This will also serve as Matt Smith’s first on-screen appearance as the Doctor.
According to the report, the Tenth Doctor, played by David Tennant, will be searching for a device of some sort, and all the previous incarnations will be drawn into the search.
The first three Doctors, the actors for which have passed away, will be included via footage from their original episodes.
There has been no official confirmation of this from the BBC, so this one is staying firmly in the rumors department.
Doctor Who has had two previous Chlidren in Need segments. The first introduced David Tennant as the Doctor, acting as a bridge between The Parting of the Ways and The Christmas Invasion. The second segment, airing in 2007, featured both David Tennant and Peter Davison. Davison played the fifth incarnation of the Doctor in the classic series.
Cubicle 7 Entertainment Ltd have announced the upcoming release of Doctor Who: Adventures in Time and Space.

Releasing in October, this will be the third officially licensed Doctor Who RPG. Similar in style to Dungeons & Dragons, this will be a set of rules and guidelines for character creation and campaign settings. This RPG will be based on the new incarnation of the show.
Created to appeal to both beginning RPG players and experienced players alike, Doctor Who: Adventures in Time and Space will allow players to adventure in the many worlds of Doctor Who. The set will include a 144-page Gamemaster’s Guide, an 86-page Player’s Guide, a 30-page Adventures Book, 4-page Quick Start Guide, Pre-Generated Character Sheets, Blank Character Sheets, Gadget Sheets, tokens and dice.
